All surgery has risks. Common complications of cosmetic surgery includes hematoma, nerve damage, infection, scarring, implant failure and organ damage. Breast implants can have many complications, including rupture. In 2011 FDA stated that one in five patients who received implants for breast augmentation will need them removed within 10 years of implantation.
In a world where celebrities go under the knife with alarming frequency, it can be easy to think that plastic surgery is just no big deal, but it is important to recognize, a tummy tuck is a major surgery. Before you commit, it’s important you’re armed with all the facts, and you know what to expect at each stage of the process. Over the next three posts, I’ll cover what you should consider and know in the pre-op phase, what to expect on surgery day and what to anticipate as you recover.
The type of implant you go with, should be decided based on your body type, your goals, and the advice of your surgeon. It is important that you follow the advice of an image consultant and your plastic surgeon to make the best decision during your breast augmentation in Detroit, MI. As far as brands available in Michigan, some of the top manufacturers of breast implants are Mentor®, Allergan®, and Arion®.
When you’re getting ready for your initial consultation, you’ll want to prepare some questions for your doctor and the staff in the office. Having a list of what to ask and bringing it with you will help while you are nervous. At the consultation appointment, be prepared to listen. Your doctor should take the time to discuss your procedure – there are many variations of tummy tuck and several concerns to take into considering including the type of incision, other abdominal wall or hernia repair that may need to be completed, the risks associated with the procedure, and of course, the costs.
Of course, the breast reduction vs. breast lift question is not really cut and dry because every woman is unique. You may be unsure of what volume you would like with the breasts in a more favorable position. Breasts may be different sizes (asymmetric). The position of the nipple may be out of proportion to the amount of breast sag. Breasts may be ‘deflated’ after pregnancy. You may have heard that breast implants are the only reliable way to lift breasts. These questions can easily be addressed at the time of your consult.
Getting in good shape through appropriate weight control and exercise can do great things for a person's looks without surgery. It's never a good idea to choose plastic surgery as a first option for something like weight loss that can be corrected in a nonsurgical manner. Gastric bypass or liposuction may seem like quick and easy fixes compared with sticking to a diet. Both of these procedures, however, carry far greater risks than dieting, and doctors should reserve them for extreme cases when all other options have failed.
Once you have made the important decision to proceed with cosmetic surgery, Anne will organize a preoperative medical evaluation, laboratory tests, order specialized surgical equipment, implants, and schedule the procedure with the surgical facility. Most of Dr. Lee’s surgical procedures are performed at the private hospital Centre Métropolitain de Chirurgie (CMC). Dr. Lee also offers ambulatory cosmetic procedures at two “state of the art” private surgical facilities. Westmount Square Surgical is conveniently located less than 100m from our office. RocklandMD Surgery Center is a beautiful facility located in the Town of Mont Royal. Both are preeminent private ambulatory surgery facilities offering a high standard of surgical care.
"There is nothing on the market that will tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall and remove loose skin in the way that a tummy tuck will," says Dr. Robert J. Schwartz, a Plano, Texas plastic surgeon, in a tummy tuck Q&A. “Should anyone try to sell you a nonsurgical option, my advice is to run away! Any advertised modality will only shrink your wallet and not your waistline.”
Cosmetic Surgery Montreal is conveniently located in downtown Montreal in close proximity to the business district and suburbs of Montreal. Our office building is nestled between Place Alexis Nihon and Westmount Square on Sainte-Catherine Street West. The clinic is located within walking distance to the Atwater metro station and is easily accessible by public transportation.
Both breast reduction and breast lift surgeries are similar in that they both serve to reshape the breasts. Breast lift, through any of the various techniques, basically serves to reposition the breast and nipple on the chest to reverse the effects of time and gravity. The same changes that are noted in ptotic, or sagging, breasts are often seen in large breasts that require reduction: the nipple position is often low and there is excess skin (in addition to the excess breast tissue). The breast reduction then combines a lift with removal of extra tissue to create a breast that has a higher nipple position, reduced extra skin, and smaller and more balanced breast size.
Surprisingly, breast reduction surgery is not that painful. The pain and discomfort is managed by the pain medication prescribed by Dr. Jugenburg, but most patients use over the counter pain medication after the first several days. Cold compresses help with the swelling and discomfort, and sleeping in an upright position with pillows for the first week or so will help with the pain.
Once you’ve committed to the procedure and decided on a surgeon, you’ll need to schedule a pre-op appointment. Your surgeon will also likely review your procedure again and answer any questions you might have. Some physicians ask you to bring an example of clothes you typically wear or a swimsuit to discuss the placement of your scars so you can finally have that bikini body you’ve dreamed of! I brought a swimsuit to my surgery day so he could see exactly where I would prefer the scar lines to fall.
